Youth Acceptance Collaborative
The Youth Acceptance Collaborative (YAC) is a collaboration of BAYC, Family Builders and Alameda County Social Services.
The Y.A.C. provides a continuum of services towards the prevention of some Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer and Questioning (LGBTQ) youth from entering the child welfare system and the transition of others from placement to family-based permanency.
Y.A.C. services include:
Our Space is an LGBTQ youth community center that provides safe and affirming
space for LGBTQ youth to socialize, explore their identities, build community and
develop leadership skills.
Drop-in services often serve as an early intervention strategy to protect against
homelessness and involvement in the foster care and juvenile justice systems.
Our Space drop-in services are available to youth ages 14 – 24 and include:
• Outreach and engagement with
disconnected and high risk LGBTQ youth
• Placement stabilization and crisis
support capacity
• Safe drop-in space for LGBTQ youth
to explore their identities and receive
stabilization services
•On-site LGBTQ affirming case
consultation for Child Welfare Workers
(CWW), foster parents, group home
providers, relatives and other care givers
and biological families with the Y.A.C.
Family Advocate and LGBTQ Youth
Advocate
• Engagement and support services for
LGBTQ youth at the Alameda County
Assessment Center
• Support services for families and
caregivers of LGBTQ youth
• Mental health supports for LGBTQ
youth, their families and caregivers
• Monthly family support group
