Job Title: Bilingual Homestudy Social Worker (part-time)
Job Description:

Family Builders is a non-profit, licensed foster care and adoption agency, serving children in the foster care system. Family Builders believes that every child has the right to grow up in a permanent, nurturing family regardless of that child’s age, race, ethnicity, gender, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, or medical, physical or emotional condition. Family Builders educates the community about the needs of waiting children, advocates on their behalf, and places children with permanent, secure families through adoption, and other forms of permanence.

Summary:

We currently have a part-time hourly position for an experienced Homestudy Social Worker. The Bilingual Homestudy Social Worker conducts homestudies and assessments for relatives and other caregivers in both English and Spanish. They provide an in-depth assessment of the family’s background, experiences, relationships, strengths and weaknesses, and capabilities to fost/adopt a child. This is a part-time, hourly position 10-20 hours per week.

Qualifications:

Master’s degree in social work or equivalent, ability to communicate well, excellent clinical assessment skills, knowledge of and experience with the foster care/child welfare system, including child mental health and placement/attachment and adoption issues. This position requires excellent writing skills. Must have own car and be willing to travel. Must have flexible schedule including evenings and weekends. Must be fluent in English and Spanish. Must be committed to the mission of the agency.

The Homestudy Social Worker conducts homestudies and provides services, support and assistance for families to complete all of the required homestudy documentation. They provide an in-depth assessment of the family’s background, experiences, relationships, strengths and weaknesses, and capabilities. During the course of the homestudy, the social worker educates the family the child welfare/adoption process. They assess the family’s readiness and develop and support the family’s ability to appropriately parent a child(ren) who is already residing in their home.

Job Title: getREAL California Project Director
Job Description:

SUMMARY:

We currently have a position open for the getREAL California Project Director. The getREAL Project Director has primary responsibility for developing and delivering all aspects of the project whose primary goal is to integrate sexual orientation and gender identity/expression (SOGIE)-informed policy and practice into California’s child welfare system. The Project Director will lead a multiple-year implementation effort aimed at increasing the competency and capacity of the statewide system in serving lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) and gender non-conforming (GNC) children and youth. The Project Director will develop resources for professionals and families to improve outcomes for LGBT and GNC children and youth in the child welfare system

QUALIFICATIONS:

Master's degree in social work, public policy, other human services fields, or equivalent. Thorough knowledge of and experience working with the child welfare system. In-depth understanding of issues facing LGBT and GNC youth in out-of-home care. Knowledge of issues related to racial disparities within child-serving public systems. Excellent writing and public speaking skills. This position requires air travel as well as the use of own vehicle for local travel. Must be committed to the mission of Family Builders.
